Preparer Due Diligence in the Real World!
As a tax professional you may be challenged if there is a mistake on a return or an understatement of tax. Do you fully understand Circular 230 § 10.22 as it pertains to all the “due diligence” that is required of you? Are you asking the right questions concerning Conflicts of Interest, EITC, Hobby versus Business and Foreign Accounts? If something goes awry do you have the proper documentation? With the perspective of hindsight, did you do the right thing? What effort is required of you as a reasonable and prudent preparer to obtain the relevant and pertinent facts? In this session we will examine and discuss real-world situations that illustrate the ethics and standards for the documentation and the questions you need to ask to meet the due diligence requirement of Circular 230 § 10.22.
